Lessons are typically 1 hour long.
Longer lessons can be booked subject to availability.
Most people book weekly lessons, but I can offer lessons more frequently than that or fortnightly.
Yes. I continue to offer lessons throughout the school holidays. I am able to offer additional lessons during the holidays as well as increased flexibility for the timing of lessons.
I offer both in person lessons, at the home of the student, or online lessons.
If you have more than one student that you would like tuition for, I do offer group lessons. These are at a discounted rate when compared to 1:1 lessons.
If you are interested in a group session, please contact me to discuss the price per student and how these lessons can be structured.
I offer in person lessons, at the home of the student, in the following areas:
I have both advance payment and Pay As You Go options. Advance payment options receive a discounted rate and payment is due before the sessions begin.
For Pay As You Go, an invoice will be issued after each session and payment is due within 5 days.
Invoices will be emailed out and contain details for a payment to be made through a bank transfer.
No cancellation fee will be charged if sufficient notice is given (ideally at least 2 hours). Cancellation within 2 hours of the lesson start time will incur the standard lesson fee. If possible, I will try to reschedule your lesson within that week, to one of my 'catch-up' slots, so that you don't miss out.
Exercise books, basic stationery and access to both online programmes and paper resources will be provided for students in each lesson. Students that are having tuition for GCSE Maths will need to have access to their own scientific calculator to help build up their fluency in using it.
The first term of lessons can be structured as follows:
Upon request, work can be set to be completed between sessions. This will be reviewed with the student at the start of their next session.
The 11+ is a standardised exam sat by Year 6 students who wish to join a grammar/ selective school in Year 7. The 11+ exam for the schools in Lancaster is made up of 3 key areas:
There are two tiers of exams for GCSE Maths: foundation and higher. Each tier is targeted at a range of numerical grades (1 - 9). Grade 9 is the highest grade achievable. The higher tier exams have a grade range of 3 to 9 whereas the foundation tier has a grade range of 1 to 5.
An overall grade of 3 to 5 can be achieved on both tiers and the exam papers will include some questions that are the same on both tiers. A student must take 3 exam papers at the same tier.
Both tiers involve 3 (90 minute) exam papers each of which is worth 80 marks. This gives a total of 240 marks available across the 3 papers. Paper 1 is a non-calculator exam and Papers 2 & 3 are calculator exams.
